Initially founded as a constituent society of AIME (American Institute of Mining Engineers) in 1957, SPE became a separate organisation in 1985. Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is one of the most prestigious organizations working for the benefits and integration of Geologists and Geophysicists worldwide. It aims at disseminating technical knowledge concerning exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies. The IITB student chapter was started in 2013. Last year the chapter celebrated its first Annual day on 27th September with the seminar on “Hydraulic Fracturing” and several group activities and quiz competitions.

Prof. Vasudevan has wide experience in the oil and gas industry.
He served as the basin manager of western offshore basin of ONGC. He joined as a Visiting Faculty of the department last year. He is taking classes for several courses. He will discuss several challenges faced by the industry.
