Research Interest and Summary of Research Work:
Earth structure
Seismological studies are being carried out to understand the nature of the shallow crustal and deep lithospheric velocity structure beneath India and in particular beneath the Deccan Volcanic Province(DVP). A research program, launched in 1998, is being pursued to understand the evolution of the DVP by establishing, in phases, a network of Broadband stations encompassing the DVP and Northwestern India. The upper mantle image down to a depth of 660km is being mapped which is expected to provide constraints on the evolution of the DVP. Modeling the seismic wave velocity structure is done using advanced seismological techniques employing both teleseismic body and surface waves recorded by the network of broadband digital seismic stations These studies provide a reliable means of resolving the elastic parameters of the earth, which are linked to the evolutionary processes of the earth system.
Seismotectonics
Seismotectonic studies were done to understand the nature, pattern and character of seismicity occurring in the Deccan volcanic province (DVP) through seismic monitoring using an array of seismic stations.
