GS 813: Topics in Igneous Petrology and Volcanology
Syllabus
Petrological-geochemical characters of magmas in diverse tectonic settings; petrogenetic modeling of crystallization and melting processes(e.g., fractional crystallization, assimilation-fractional crystallization, fractional and batch melting); volcanic systems from source to surface; dynamics of lava flows, pyroclastic falls and flows; emplacement of various types of intrusions; volcanic facies in subaerial and subaqueous environments; case studies around the world; important igneous provinces and events of India.
