After a long wait for two years, finally we had our favourite function in the department i.e. "THE TRADITIONAL DAY". This special day is celebrated by cultural dresses and cultural performances by the earthlings every year. This day the function was conducted by ERSA Literary and Cultural Secretary Abhishek Mukherjee. All students came with their own cultural dresses. Based on Eastern, Western , Northern and Southern Indian cultures, students are divided into four groups. Every group had to come up on stage and had to speak something about their culture like food, dress, music etc. Based on the presentation and performance of each group, they were judged by Prof. G.N.Jadav, and was given points. All groups were performed well. Eastern group had performed few songs [Bengali], and few recitations. Classical dance performance by a freshie was enjoyed by all. Southern group had performed a great song which everybody liked and appreciated. At end of the day, judge had declared the group with most points in all respects [ performance, dress, presentation]. It was the Eastern group who won the most points. Other groups had also earned considerable points. It was a great day for students. The whole department was looking so different. Other faculties had also enjoyed the function. It was truly "UNITY IN DIVERSITY". Photos coming soon............ Today was the day of new comers. The most awaited programme of odd semester i.e. the " FRESHER WELCOME," was organized by the present ERSA council for having face to face introduction of the fresh students in front of faculties and slightly older students. :) After a brief and valuable speech by the H.O.D, ERSA council member introduced themselves to the department. Prof G N Jadav won the heart of all people with his style, speech and short poems. We are extremely happy to welcome two new faculty members. Prof. M Ramakrishnan and Prof S.Dutta, joined the department from this year. They were welcomed by flowers, followed few brief lines from them. Freshers performed dances, song, recitation on stage along with their intro.. it was so nice to enjoy the moments.. Today ERSA council had organised a orientation programme for the new entrants in the department. In the programme freshies are introduced with the various activities of the ERSA as well as the present ERSA council. Each council member explained the duty and responsibility of the post they hold. Freshers are also introduced with the various society chapters by Anupam Ghosh. He encouraged the new as well as old students to join the student chapters like AAPG, SPG, GSA, APG to make these IITB student chapters successful. As per with the plan to improve the ERSA website, i had started to put the photos of the students beside their profiles on the ERSA web. So junta, send your pics( passport/stamp sized) within 10th August, 2007, so that can be uploaded on this site. sample pictures can be found on the link to M.Sc. (II). you can mail me your pictures to: bidesh[at]iitb.ac.in so hurry up... Today we celebrated the most colourful evening in the department. Today ERSA organised the "VALEDICTORY FUNCTION 2007" for the passing out batch. M.Sc I people had shown enthusiastic performances in the function. Opening speech was delivered by Prof. P.K.Saraswati, H.O.D, followed by other faculty members. Profiles of the passing out students are projected on screen, and they received a small memento from the department. Junior students had performed songs, and quizzes, which are enjoyed by all people present in the seminar hall. Few of the photos of the function is uploaded in Photo Gallery section. More photos will be uploaded soon. Quite rightly said that the sun has shone over the department once again, after a good placement season last year, this year was proving to be a great one, and especially so after today, when we can proudly stand up to say that the M.Sc (Applied Geology) batch has been placed fully, i.e., what was commonly a hush hush news has come true, they have proved their might. Wait a minute, the M.Sc (Applied Geology) people are no far left behind, though not 100% but there has been 84% campus placements this year, by far the best placement season the department has perhaps seen. This only goes on to prove that the earthlings rule and that still IIT-B stays the best place to come down for your further studies. |
