Facilities

The Department supports well equipped laboratories that aids in teaching and research activities. Some of the major facilities available are as follows:

  • Ar-Ar Mass Spectrometer
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES)
  • Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS)
  • UV and visible spectrophotometer
  • X-ray Diffractometer (XRD)
  • Scanning Electron Microscope with Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (SEM-EDS)
  • Optical systems for transmitted and incident light microscopy
  • Heat and freezing stages for fluid inclusion studies
  • Engineering geological test equipments
  • Laser Raman Spectrometer
  • Magnetic susceptibility measurement systems and magnetometers
  • Gravimeter
  • Digital seismograph
  • Advanced computational systems
  • Field Fourier Transform Infra-red Radiometer (FTIR)
  • Vibration monitor
  • VLF electromagnetic equipment

Besides the departmental infrastructure, students and faculty have access to various facilities of other Departments and Centres. This includes the well equipped Sophisticated Advanced Instrumentation Facility (SAIF) located in the IIT Bombay Campus.
